Fall book sale: November 3-5

Book saleA huge inventory of used books will give shoppers the opportunity to pick up loads of books and media materials at our semi-annual Used Book Sale, November 3-5.

Thousands of items will be available at this sale. Here are just some of the highlights:

  • Fiction titles for adults in hardcover and paperback
  • Non-fiction books in every category
  • Lots of juvenile books for children 6-12 years of age
  • Manga books for young adults
  • DVDs (movies and documentaries)
  • Music CDs

Most book prices are in the 50 cent to $1 range, except for some especially nice books and DVDs with prices as marked from $2-5. Credit cards are now being accepted for payment, as well as cash and checks.

Hours for the sale will be:

  • Friday, November 3, 2 – 3 pm, members-only pre-sale (memberships available at the door)
  • Friday, November 3, 3 – 6 pm
  • Saturday, November 4, 10 am – 4 pm
  • Sunday, November 5, 1 – 4 pm

During Sunday sale hours, regularly priced books will be $2 for a bag. Media and special priced items will be 50% off.

The sale will be in the library’s Community Room.

Used media sale: October 7th

Used media saleThe Friends will host a special Used Media ONLY sale on Saturday, October 7, from 10 am to 3 pm in the lobby of the Tualatin Public Library. An avalanche of recent donations means a great selection of used DVDs (movies, documentaries, foreign language films, and kids); audiobooks; and hundreds of CDs of every musical genre.

Prices are $1-2, or as marked for some special DVDs. Come early for the best selection.

The library is located at 18878 SW Martinazzi Ave. in Tualatin.

Astronomy books for eclipse day

Eclipse day booksThe Friends are offering a nice assortment of astronomy-themed books, magazines, and videos to celebrate eclipse day on August 21st. You’ll find the books on the freestanding display near the entrance to the Tualatin Library.

The Tualatin Library has also scheduled activities for the day. They have a limited number of eclipse glasses to distribute starting at 9:15 am in the library’s lobby. They will also screen NASA’s livestream of the eclipse in the Community Room. For additional information about the library’s events, please check their website.

Volunteer help wanted

Ongoing salePart time rewarding jobs with flexible hours. Excellent opportunity to meet new Friends and be part of a great team. No experience required, just a love of books and a desire to support the Tualatin Public Library.

The Friends are looking for volunteers for two important positions in the organization:

1. Chair of the Ongoing Sales Team. You’ll lead the team that markets and stocks the sale shelves inside the library on a daily basis. Our ongoing sale is a major source of revenue for the Friends. Training will be provided and approximate time commitment is six to seven hours per week. Come lead our Ongoing Book Sale Team!

Responsibilities include:

  • Meeting monthly with the rest of the volunteer team to develop schedules, discuss pricing, and plan future activities.
  • Communicating with the Ongoing team by email as needed.
  • Working with chairs of the Amazon and Book Sale teams.
  • Providing a report of Ongoing activities to the Friends’ Board president before meetings.
  • Communicating with the library staff as needed.
  • Coordinating inventory control and administrative tasks important to the operation of the team.

2. Amazon Marketplace Product Lister. You’ll list donated books, DVDs, and miscellaneous other products on the Friends Amazon Marketplace. All items are evaluated by other team members to make sure that they meet listing criteria, and are then flagged for the Product Lister. Potential volunteers should be detail oriented and have strong computer skills. Training will be provided and approximate time commitment is four to five hours per week.
