When we receive cash donations, they’re usually from people or businesses nearby — from Tualatin or a neighboring community. So, we were surprised recently to receive a $100 check in the mail from a couple from Connecticut. Along with the check they sent a letter explaining: “Even though we have never been to your library, we are happy to join as a member. You are doing such important, patriotic work. America needs an educated populace, and it is too easy to be fed things other than the truth.”
The donation is part of their Turn to the Wonderful project which emphasizes the importance of giving locally. They have sent $100 checks to local libraries, NPR stations, United Way organizations, science museums, URJ congregations, and ACLU organizations throughout the country.
